Rebecca Susan Hanna was born in Forest City, Winnebago Co., IA  to Donald and Eldora (Christianson) Hanna. She has one sister Ruth Paulson of Madison, Wl.

Rebecca's background is Norwegian and German. Paternal grandparents were Alfred and Helen (Schauf) Hanna of Woden. Maternal grandparents were Joseph and Elma (Grunhovd) Christianson of Scarville. Paternal great-grandparents were Andrew and Anna (Bagne) Hanna of Dane Co., Wl and Ulvik, Hardanger, Norway, and Henry and Minnie (Klocke) Schauf of Lippe Detmold, Germany. Maternal great-grandparents were John and Inger (Hollen) Christianson of Grue and Odderness, Norway, and Steiner and Johanna (Vangsness) Grunhovd of Scarville.

Rebecca was baptized and confirmed at Grant Lutheran Church rural Woden. She attended Woden-Crystal Lake Community School grades K-6 at Woden and 7-12 at Crystal Lake and graduated in May 1975.

In Aug of 1975 she moved to Decorah where she attended Luther College and graduated in May 1979 with a B.A. in Elementary Education.

Her first two years of teaching were spent at North Winneshiek Community School District in the Chapter I Remedial Reading and the Math Department. In 1981 she accepted an upper elementary position at Holy Trinity School in Protivin and taught there for seven years. In 1988 she was hired by the South Winneshiek CSD at Calmar and Ossian as a Kindergarten teacher.

Hanson, Asle and Clare (Olson)

Asle Norvin Hanson was born 10 Jan 1892 in Hatton, ND. His father was Borger Hanson. His father died in the Fall of 1931; his mother in 1924.

Asle had 2 brothers - S.O. Hanson (Decorah) and H.P Hanson (St. Paul, MN) - and 4 sisters (deceased). Asle moved to Decorah with his parents when he was about 3 years old.

Asle graduated from Decorah High School in 1909 and the University of Iowa in 1913. He had an outstanding record as a student and was elected to two scholastic fraternities - Tau Beta Pi (engineering fraternity) and Sigma Xi (scientific fraternity). Asle worked with the W.D. Lovell & Co., Minneapolis, a construction firm specializing in the building of post offices and government buildings until entering the service in World War I. Asle was a Sergeant, First Class, in the Ordnance Department.

In 1920 Asle returned to Decorah to assist the city in controlling the regular flooding of Dry Run Creek. He was recognized as one of the best engineers in northeast Iowa in such matters. Asle asked Charles Altfillisch, a former classmate at college, to assist him in the flood control survey. He was associated with Mr. Altfillisch for many years, sharing office space with him until his (Asle’s) death. Asle was the city engineer at the time of his death. Asle was prominent in business and civic affairs. He was a member of the Masons, Shrine, Elks and American Legion. He was past commander of the Anton Bernatz Post of the American Legion and past worshipful master of the Masons. Asle was Vice President of the Decorah Chamber of Commerce in 1931. He attended the Iowa State Republican Convention as a Winneshiek Co. delegate in March 1932. While in the South, Asle contracted malaria and never entirely regained his health. He died 10 Apr 1932 (at the age of 40) at his home at 409 Hill Street of pneumonia.

Asle was married to the former Clare Olson, the daughter of A.S. Olson. Clare was born in Eldorado, lAand grew up in Decorah. They had one daughter, Patricia Ann, who was 6 years old when Asle died.

Hanson, Donald and Janet (Huinker)

Donald Julian Hanson was born at the Smith Memorial Hospital in Decorah, IA. He is the son of Julian A. Hanson and Esther Grotegut. Julian was born 11 Jan 1916 and died 7 Mar 1995. The family farm is in Frankville Twp, Winneshiek Co.
